The secret is officially out for music lovers across Western North Carolina. The Black Mountain Blues Society has unveiled the full artist lineup for the highly anticipated 2026 Black Mountain Blues Experience, taking place September 25–27 right in the heart of downtown Black Mountain.

If you are expecting a standard, sprawling outdoor music festival, our local organizers are turning that traditional format on its head this season. Instead of crowded fields and competing stages, we are shifting the focus entirely to an upscale, ultra-intimate indoor environment built around a single, heartfelt rule: great music deserves to be heard.

The Premium Indoor Difference

While large outdoor festival fields certainly have their own charm, the specialized indoor format of the 2026 Experience is designed to completely focus on the artist and attendee experience. Say goodbye to unpredictable mountain weather, muddy grounds, long lines, and fighting massive crowds just to catch a glimpse of a headliner.

Instead, the entire weekend moves completely indoors to the warm natural acoustics and welcoming atmosphere of White Horse Black Mountain. Capacity is strictly limited to only about 200 total seats per performance. This creates a rare, close-up atmosphere where every single ticket guarantees a dedicated, reserved seat in a comfortable, climate-controlled space. It allows you to step away to grab a drink or a bite to eat without ever having to wonder who will take your spot the minute you stand up.

We have thoughtfully curated a incredible roster of genre legends, Grammy nominees, and International Blues Challenge (IBC) winners. These are world-class performers who routinely command arena and massive festival stages for thousands of people, now performing inside an exclusive, intimate 200-seat room.

The weekend itinerary beautifully balances legendary, genre-shaping performers with emerging artists defining the future of the blues:

• Southern Avenue: Our headliner for a beautiful Women-Fronted Gospel Blues Sunday. These brilliant Memphis musicians are multi-Grammy nominees (including a 2026 nod for their acclaimed album Family!) and a 2026 BMA Band of the Year Nominee. Sunday’s finale stands as the spiritual and emotional heart of the entire event.
• Selwyn Birchwood: The pioneer of “Electric Swamp Funk” and Alligator Records artist. This modern firebrand, 2013 IBC Winner, and multi-BMA award winner bring a high-octane, deeply rhythmic, and original energy to the stage.
• Stacy Mitchhart Band: The undisputed, house-rocking icon of the Nashville blues scene and an Albert King Award winner, delivering soulful, brilliantly unpredictable showmanship.
• Ghost Town Blues Band: Hailing straight from Beale Street, this group brings a “shoot-from-the-hip” Memphis attitude fueled by second line horn energy and raw cigar-box guitars. Their hit album Shine debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart.
• Derrick Dove and the Peacekeepers: The reigning First Place Winner of the 2026 International Blues Challenge, with Dove taking home the IBC 2026 Best Guitarist title. Expect soulful southern rock and gritty blues.
• MAMA featuring Melissa McKinney: Led by a dedicated local community leader and songwriter, Melissa brings a raw, deeply soulful voice that is legendary in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The group claimed Second Place in the Band Division at the 2026 IBC and First Place at the 2025 MerleFest Competition.

Regional & Carolinas Spotlights

The weekend also proudly highlights the absolute finest talent defining our local Carolinas and regional landscape. We are thrilled to welcome true blues royalty Mac Arnold (former bassist for Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker), Sacred Steel masters Wendy & DaShawn Hickman, dynamic global IBC prodigy Ra’Shad “The Blues Kid”, master storyteller Seth Walker, acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Max Hightower, Asheville favorites Peggy Ratusz & Daddy Longlegs, and the deeply moving gospel-soul-blues of Rhoda Weaver & The Risers.

To maintain our close-knit, high-fidelity setting, capacity is strictly capped. Tickets are sold independently on an individual, per-seat basis across two distinct configurations:

• General Reserved Seating: Grants a fully guaranteed, reserved seat within our premium listening rows. Because there are no tables in these rows, it ensures a streamlined, distraction-free environment completely dedicated to the raw musical connection.
• The Premium Table Experience: Designed for groups of four to share a single table space. Table upgrades feature prime front-and-center viewing locations, dedicated table space, and convenient table-side beverage service throughout the night so you never miss a single note.
