Rules for Blues Society Jams
Sign-Up & Song Selection
- Capacity & Timing: Limit of 10 slots. Sign up by 7:00 PM at the lobby table.
- Details: Note your instrument/vocals. Vocalists must list 2–3 songs with their respective keys.
- Repertoire: At least one song should be from the Suggested List. Outside songs must be “easy to talk down” with a standard blues progression.
Sets & Performance
- Selection: The host will select 2 players and 1 singer per set (not necessarily in chronological order) to play 2–3 songs with the house band.
- Pre-formed Groups: Full bands are welcome. Notify the host by 7:30 PM.
- Timing: Sets are approximately 15 minutes. Keep solos to two passes through the form.
- Cues: Lead singers will direct the solo order from the stage.
Gear & Stage Etiquette
- Readiness: Have instruments tuned and out of cases. If you aren’t ready when called, the next jammer will take your spot.
- Backline: Use provided amps (guitar/bass), piano, and drum kit. Drummers should bring their own sticks. No personal amplifiers on stage.
- Limits: Maximum of 2 guitarists per set.
- Volume: If asked by the host or sound crew to turn down, please do so immediately.
Coordination
- Check-in: Between 7:00 PM – 7:25 PM, the host will meet with signees to confirm keys and provide transition instructions.
- Goal: Keep things moving, respect the players waiting behind you, and HAVE FUN!
